along my journey I carry you along

Philadelphia International Airport, 2017

Materials: ripstop, fans, fabric, tubes

Along my journey I carry you along is about a journey that we all share. Both physical and metaphorical, this wandering journey is tied to longing…a yearning for a place, for a time past or future, for a person lost and waiting to be found again.

go to where you can breathe

Fleisher Art Memorial Wind Challenge Finalist, 2014

Arlington Arts Center, 2014

Materials: ripstop, fans, fabric

Go to where you can breathe is a functional interior design piece that hints at the sensibilities of exterior landscape. It is displayed as a domestic stage setting where two specific objects: divider “time-out” units and an inflatable sunset, are used to achieve the goal of family calm. I am interested in the way that home environment and arrangement shapes how we relate to one another. I am also curious about how adapting that space or introducing a new object can improve quality of life, both physically and emotionally.

you make me nostalgic for a place I’ve never known

Flashpoint Gallery, 2011

Materials: ripstop, fans, fabric, HVAC system

You make me nostalgic for a place I’ve never known is an inflatable system comprised of three main sections that feed partially off of the gallery’s HVAC system and are partially controlled by internal fans and timers. The central inflatable landscape inflates and deflates according to the gallery’s heating and cooling cycle, and therefore the viewing experience changes according to the temperature and settings of the gallery's thermostat.

The title and cloud imagery take inspiration from Micheal Chabon's novel The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, and at the same time tie directly into personal circumstance and experience.
