I miss the sway I feel when we get too close

a maypole for the kids of 2020-21, we know it’s been so hard, and we hope you can get back to playing again soon.

Main Line Art Center, 2021

Materials: ripstop, vinyl, corset boning, grosgrain ribbon

The pandemic years were hard for us all, especially the kids, as their development seemed to have been arrested in part. This was a site-specific piece about that hardship, with a little bit of sadness mixed with a little bit of hope.

and yet another year my love

Grizzly Grizzly, 2017

And yet another year my love is about a celebration ritual that we all share. An inflatable cake, reminiscent of a tiered wedding cake or a grown-up birthday cake, playfully inflates and deflates. Although airy and light, the piece carries a solemn undertone enhanced by its steady deflating and tonal coloring. It is a reminder that within the celebration of an awaited moment or the marking of another year, exists the journey between these points that recalls it’s passing. Whether these are pin-points of joy or sadness, we cycle again to these anniversaries to find the hopeful rest found in the brief pause of our journey.
